A coal-based polypropylene (PP) production project in northwest China, believed to be the world's largest one, is to start trial operation next year, a company source said Tuesday.
The project, located in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, will cost approximately 17 billion yuan (2.5 billion U.S. dollars), with a designed annual production capacity of 520,000 tonnes of PP.
The project will also be able to produce 184,800 tonnes of gasoline and 13,800 tonnes of sulfur a year as by-products, said Yao Min, general manager of the coal chemical company under the Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group.
Gasification technology provided by Siemens of Germany will be adopted for the core facility of the project, Yao added.
